Every January, the Legends Invitational Tournament (LIT) lights up the summer in Sydney and this year, we’re proud to announce that Yakka Sport is partnering with this event!
If you’re part of a club or academy, a student looking for a dynamic volunteer role, or someone ready to step into the field-management side of sport, we want you on board.
Why You Should Get Involved
Held at the picturesque grounds of Easts Rugby in Rose Bay, the tournament brings together U8s through U12/13s teams for a high-energy 6-a-side competition.
It’s more than just a tournament: it’s a summer environment where young players, coaches and families come together, enjoy the sunshine, the competition, the community-spirit and the fun.
For Clubs & Academies Around Australia (and Sydney in particular)
We’d like to extend a warm invitation to clubs and academies across Australia; whether you’re local to Sydney or further afield. To register teams for the tournament. https://www.legendsinvitationaltournament.com/
• Age groups: U8 through U12/13s.
• Each team will play 7 matches: 5 rounds of group play, followed by placement into Cup, Shield or Plate semi-finals.
This is a terrific opportunity for your players to enjoy a premium summer football experience, meet other clubs, and compete in a well-organised setting.
As a partner, we’re committed to helping make the event run smoothly and providing an environment that’s both competitive and fun.
Volunteer Roles: We Need You!
We’re actively recruiting the following volunteer positions:
- Referees — Officiate matches, help enforce the rules, ensure fair play and keep the action flowing.
- Assistant Field Managers — Support the match day operations: coordinate teams, ensure fields are ready, manage logistics and help with communications.
We’re particularly keen to hear from students at Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE), General Institute of Science (GIS) and Torrens University Australia and of course, anyone else interested and available.
Volunteering is a fantastic way to build experience in sport-event management, refereeing or support operations. Plus, you’ll be part of a great summer atmosphere, meet like-minded people and support grassroots sport.
What Volunteer With Yakka Sport X LIT means as a Referees & Assistant Field Managers
We’re recruiting enthusiastic volunteers to help deliver a world-class experience at the Legends Invitational Tournament 2026.
What makes this experience truly special is the chance to work alongside two highly respected figures in Australian football: Dan Pyke and Lewis Thompson.
Dan Pyke, founder of the original Legends Soccer program and former Head of Program at the Eastern Suburbs Football Association (ESFA) SAP/GSAP, has been a driving force in youth football development for over a decade. A former Welsh Schoolboy international, Dan has coached across grassroots and elite academies, helping shape hundreds of young players and coaches in Sydney’s football scene. His understanding of player development and event coordination makes him an invaluable mentor for anyone stepping into a sports management or coaching career.
Lewis Thompson, Co-Founder of Next Level Soccer Australia, brings over ten years of professional coaching and academy experience. He’s worked within the Macarthur Bulls and NPL NSW systems, mentoring both players and junior coaches. As a UEFA A License candidate, Lewis combines European methodology with a strong understanding of Australia’s football landscape, offering volunteers insights into high-performance environments, game-day logistics, and leadership in sports operations.
Volunteers will not only contribute to a major youth tournament but also learn directly from Dan Pyke and Lewis Thompson — gaining hands-on experience, professional guidance, and exposure to the behind-the-scenes coordination that keeps a large-scale sporting event running smoothly.
This isn’t just volunteering; it’s a chance to learn from two of the best, network with clubs and coaches, and take your first real step into the professional world of sports and event management.
